Robert M. Holland, 90, of Ellington, beloved husband of 64 years to Rose (Colombaro) Holland, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 4, 2012 at Hartford Hospital. Born in Erving, Massachusetts, the son of the late Wilfred and Thelma (Leighton) Holland, he has lived in Ellington for over 65 years. Prior to his retirement in 1983, Robert was employed at Pratt & Whitney Aircraft in East Hartford for over 31 years. He was a U. S. Army Air Corps veteran of World War II. He loved duck pin bowling, playing horseshoes and golfing. He was an avid Red Sox, UCONN men's and women's basketball and Patriots fan. Robert was a member of the Rockville Moose Club. In addition to his wife, Robert is survived by his beloved children, James Holland and his wife Deborah of Lake Katrine, NY, Joan Holland of Ellington and Donald Holland and his wife Priscilla of Ellington; three grandchildren; six great grandchildren; a sister, Virginia Kuehl and her husband Raymond of Staffordville and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two sisters, Phyllis York and Elberta DeCarli. His family would like to thank all of the staff at Kettlebrook Nursing Home for the wonderful care that they gave to Robert. His family will receive friends for calling hours on Thursday, June 7th from 4 - 7 pm at the Ladd-Turkington & Carmon Funeral Home, 551 Talcottville Road (Route 83), Vernon. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Friday, June 8th at 10 am. Burial will follow in Ellington Center Cemetery with military honors. Memorial donations in his memory may be made to the Ellington Ambulance, P. O. Box 71, Ellington, CT 06029.
