Mary J. MacLeod Obituary


Mary J. (English) MacLeod, 81, of Windsor, beloved wife of the late Melvin E. MacLeod, died peacefully on Tuesday, May 31, 2011 at a local convalescent home. She was born on March 14, 1930 in Concord, MA, daughter of the late Maurice Joseph and Mary (Prendergast) English. Mary was a graduate of St. Mary’s High School in Waltham, MA and St. Vincent’s School of Nursing in Worcester, MA. She went on to work as a Registered Nurse at St. Francis Hospital for many years. Mary also worked as an inspector for the state of Connecticut. A resident of Windsor for over 50 years, she was a communicant of St. Gabriel Church. Mary enjoyed spending time at her beach cottage in Rhode Island, where she was known by friends as the “resident nurse”. She enjoyed traveling and had the opportunity to see many places around the world. A kind, caring, loving and devoted mother, grandmother, sisters, aunt and friend she will be greatly missed by all. She leaves her children, Patricia MacLeod-Medeiros and her husband John of Dracut, MA, Michael MacLeod and Laura Peterson of Enfield, and David MacLeod and his wife Susan of Windsor, her sister, Catherine Slahtosky and her husband Jim of Suffield, five grandchildren, Lauren, Ryan, Corey, Chris and Ryan, and five beloved nieces, Anne, Jennifer, Sarah, Suzie and Cathleen. Her family wishes to thank her devoted home health aides for their kind and compassionate care, Sally, Leona, Dawn and Tillisa. A funeral service will be held on Friday, June 3, 2011, 10 a.m. at the Carmon Poquonock Funeral Home, 1816 Poquonock Ave., Windsor. Burial will follow in Windsor Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery. Her family will receive friends on Thursday (TODAY) from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
